Day 3: Sorry, Momma (with Jordan Bass)

Day 3: Sorry, Momma (with Jordan Bass)

Part of my song-a-day writing project for January 2024

Lyrics:

Momma got robbed by my ex-stepdad
Things are looking pretty sad
Sorry, momma, sorry you got done wrong

Should've done better, guess he did his best
Momma chose wrong with him like all the rest
Sorry, momma, sorry you got done wrong

How dark are you willing to get
Before you get out of the net
What will you change, or willing to do
Save yourself for the sake of you

She told a story I suppose was true
Bad things happen no matter what you do
Sorry, momma, sorry you got done wrong

But I'm glad he didn't take her car
At least she can drive to the bar
Sorry, momma, sorry you got done wrong

How dark are you willing to get
Before you get out of the net
What will you change, or willing to do
Save yourself for the sake of you

Details: I know Jordan from the local music scene, but we hadn't really hung out before. Well, co-writing a song is a great way to get to know somebody! We started by just telling our stories to each other, then sharing some songs. Then we started writing.

Jordan suggested that we pass a notebook back and forth, each writing the next line to the song. We pretty much wrote the verses this way, and Jordan was working out a basic chord progression while I was writing my lines. Then I took a crack at writing the chord progression for the bridge, and Jordan wrote some gorgeous words for it.

This was a very smooth and mellow writing session, and we got the whole thing written and recorded in less than 2 hours. Jordan's girlfriend took a video from an alternate angle, but we've been having trouble getting it transferred overf; hopefully we can share that sometime, too.

It was really fun hanging out and doing music with Jordan. I hope to do it again soon.
