"Change in Season" (cover of John Bunzli song)

I performed at the John Bunzli tribute show on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024, and this was the song I performed. I don't think my performance at the venue was recorded, so I figured I record a version from my living room. John's a wonderful songwriter who's been writing a song a week for the last 4 years. That's A LOT of songs, and a lot of good ones, too. This is one of my favorites of his.

Festive Songs for the Season!

For Throwback Thursday, here's a video from a practice session with Bridge Jumper, the Blues-Rock band I played with in Portland, Oregon a few years back. I recorded this cover of "Peaceful Easy Feeling" several weeks ago as a going away song for a co-worker who was a big Eagles fan. I think I might start posting a new cover song every week...

Karen and I had a blast recording this CCR tune. Everthing about it is extra swampy (except my shirt).

Carrie & Dave cover "And It Stoned Me"

I got together again with the scintillating Carrie Faye Thompson to cover this Van Morrison tune. We recorded it in the Remain Teachable Learning Center and Listening Room in Loveland. The space is currently being renovated, but it's going to be a cool place to hang out once it's all put together, so be on the lookout. In the meantime, enjoy the video...

Dave, Kirk & Amber cover "She Don't Use Jelly"

Kirk, Amber and I were working towards starting a punk/indie rock band late last year, but scheduling issues got in the way. This Flaming Lips song was the first one we learned to play together. Kirk normally plays his part on an electric guitar, but the acoustic version may be even more fun. Enjoy!

Carrie & Dave Cover "American Girl"

I got together earlier this week to record a couple songs with my super talented friend Carrie. I've been wanting to cover this Tom Petty song since Petty passed away last year, and have tried working on versions with a few different musicians. But I'm really happy this version got recorded-- Carrie does such great harmonies, and doing a softer acoustic version really brings it home. We had a super fun time recording this, too-- I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Valerie & Dave cover "Because the Night"

I recorded this cover of the Bruce Springsteen song last summer with Valerie Bhat, but it was right before I went through a bit of a burn-out period, so I never got around to editing and posting it. But later is better than never, so here we go! PS: all that artwork in the background are Valerie’s original pieces...

Fade Into You

As part of my duet series, I got together with the wonderful singer-songwriter-harpist, Cheyenne Dane to sing Mazzy Star's hit song from the 90's. Cheyenne is an intense and passionate performer, and we lucked out that her friend Ellen Niemeier was available to accompany us on violin. Don't Think Twice, It's All Right

Well, it's not a Holiday song, but I have a good Holiday beard going on (just in case I'm called upon to fill in for Santa).  I'm performing at a private birthday party on December 27th, and they wanted a fair amount of cover songs, so I've been brushing up on this Dylan tune, which I actually started learning several months ago (along with a Lady Gaga cover that may someday be heard by the world).  So get your inner folkie on and enjoy!

As part of my continuing project to learn some great, classic, standalone TV theme songs, I've learned "Where Everybody Knows Your Name".  Not quite as dark as "Suicide is Painless," but the lyrics are still surprisingly twisted.  Anyway, check out my version below...

Suicide is Painless

I've decided to start learning songs primarily known for being in movies or television shows... maybe video games, too (just because I really enjoyed learning Still Alive, recently).  I figure popular themes are songs that everybody knows, but they probably don't hear very often-- certainly not in a concert setting.  And there's a lot of great stuff out there in that genre.  If you can think of any songs that you'd like me to learn, please post a comment.

A friend reminded me that the theme song to M*A*S*H actually had lyrics, and interesting ones, too.  I hope you enjoy my rendition...

Still Alive!

I recently learned this song for a friend's 5-year cancer survivor party.  She's a big fan of the game "Portal" (and video games in general), so her husband thought this would be a good song to play.  I've never played "Portal", but I'm glad I now know this song, because it's both catchy and twisted.  Anyway, enjoy!
