Lyrics:
The boy with the question mark head
Wonders why his hair is so curly
The boy with the question mark head
He said, he said
"I wonder if I'm going bald early"
And Mr. Exclamation had his point
He had to shout it out to the whole dang joint
And then he went and said from his standpoint
The answer is obviously
"No no no no no no no!!!!"
The boy with the question mark head
Wonders why his head is so empty
The boy with the question mark head
He said, he said
"I wonder if I'll ever get plenty"
The girl with the eyes of ellipsis
Just couldn't finish her sentences
Faced with this new inquisition
All that she could say was ". . . "
He spends every day at the comma-ssary
Dotting and dashing around
He wishes he could put it all together
Apostrophe now
The boy with the question mark head
Wonders if he'll ever be satisfied
The boy with the question mark head
He said, he said
"I wonder if I'll always be sad inside"
And Mrs. Parenthetical said, "Q,
"I can wrap my two arms around you
"And if the editor doesn't strike us through
"Maybe I'll always be true."
The boy with the question mark head
Doo doo doo doo doo doo
Details: Today is the 2nd day of the Timmy Riordan's Fearless Songwriting Challenge, and the prompt was "The Comics Section." The first comics character that came to mind was Charlie Brown, and I thought about that one curly hair on his head. It doesn't look like a question mark, but that's what kept coming to mind, and I was off to the races.
Not much to say about this one. Musically, it's a pretty obvious approach. The only struggle lyrically was whether I should keep it to just punctuation-related words, or if I should add other words from the grammar glossary. I guess I decided to keep it simple. I have no idea what it all means; maybe you all can tell me.
Took about 2.5 hours to write and 15 minutes to record.
