Lyrics:
I will never forget your eyes
How your pupils would grow in size
How you'd greet me when I'd arrive
Your arms would pull me tight
You'd hold me through the night
The way I made you happy
Was everything to me
I will never forget your mind
How your humor would cross that line
I could never resist your smile
Your laugh would draw me in
I'd join you just for grins
Whatever made you happy
Was everything to me
Everybody's recollections
Tend to fade away in time
But can't you see
These are more than memories
Just this morning to you dropped on by
It's always nice when we walk outside
I remember you were my bride
A long, long time ago
If there's one thing that I know
You've always made me happy
You're everything to me
You're leaving once again
And I can't recall your name
You've always made me happy
You're everything to me
Details: Today was the first day that I didn't feel like writing a song. Mostly because I've been feeling a bit crummy lately. I'm not sure if I'm coming down with something or if I'm just dealing with muscle pain from bad posture while bending over my guitar to write in my notebook. Anyway, I forced myself to get going, and instead of working on the guitar first, I just decided to take a walk and come up with something the old fashioned way.
The melody came pretty quickly, though it evolved quite a bit. It took me quite a while to figure out the theme or the story. The lyrics felt very generic to me for the longest time, until I finally thought of way a build on the memory theme. I feel like the second half the lyrics pull together the first half and tie it into a neat little bow. The lyrics still need some work, but now I know what the story is.
It took about 3 hours to write and another hour to record. The second half of song-a-day January has begun!
