Lyrics:
It's a good day to dance
It's a good day to sing
It's a good day to swing and sway
And throw all your troubles away
A good day to dance
A new day has begun
You have a clean slate to write on
You have a blank check to pay your debts
And new round to place your bets
It's a good day to dance
It's a good day to dance
Match your movements
To the rhythm and the rhyme
Let all your worries
Fall a step behind
It's a good day to dance
On the head of a pin
All the angels begin to fly
When you tickle their toes with knives
It's a good day to dance
It's a good day to dance
Details: Last night I was meditating and trying to visualize a scene where I was doing a happy dance. After I was done meditating, I got up and ended up dancing for a solid hour or so. So I had dancing already on my mind. Then when I woke up, the first song I heard was "Dance with Me" by the band Orleans (this is an old hit song from when I was a kid). Well, this just meant that my first song had to be about dancing.
I woke up pretty late and didn't really get writing until after 11:30, and there was a New Year's Day gaming party that I wanted to go to at 3:00, so I had a short window to write this thing. But my brain was on the job as soon as I started fixing breakfast.
The first image I had was angels dancing on the head of a pin. And then I thought about how sharp pins are, and that it's kind of like dancing to get over hardship. Of course it's New Year's Day, which is seen as a chance to start over again. Last year was particularly hard for me with my roommate passing away, quitting my day job, and being as sick as I've been for the last month and a half. I really needed some way to start over, and I felt this was the right metaphor to go with.
Anyway, I finished the song a little after 2:00 and managed to record the video by 2:45, then got to the party on time. Happy New Year!
