Take me to the forest
Bathed in a full moon's light
Patches of amber
Split by the shadows of the night
I'll be your honey
If you'll be my queen
We'll build a happy comb
Just as long as we
Run through the Bumble Trees
Just you and me
When a flower blooms
It sets the field all aglow
And when a heat wave comes
It's still cool beneath the mighty oak
If you plant your roots
Then you will feel my sting
And we'll be together
Just as long as we
Run through the Bumble Trees
Just you and me
Baby, you'll be my keeper
When we lie alone in the dark
Please don't be gentle, honey
'Cause my buzz is as bad as your bark
Take me to the forest
Bathed in a full moon's light
Patches of amber
Split by the shadows of the night
I'll be your honey
If you'll be my queen
We'll build a happy comb
Just as long as we
Run through the Bumble Trees
Just you and me
Details: Today's Fearless Songwriting prompt was "Braided Together" which didn't speak to me at all. However, I was listening to some of the other songwriters participating in the challenge, and have been inspired by Rachel Taulbee. I've known her the last couple years via the Rocky Mountain Song School in Lyons (a week long songwriters' retreat), and she's a tremendous performer, but I hadn't heard that many of her songs. They've really stood out to me this week, and I wanted to try doing something in that spirit.
First off, the "Bumble Trees" in the title is just a play on Rachel's name, which led to the Bees and Trees extended metaphor. I think of her stuff as being whimsical, sensual, a little jazzy and often played on a ukulele. I can do whimsical and sometimes sensual, but I don't know jazz chords and I don't have a uke. So I just put the capo up high on the neck and played around until something kind of sounded right. Maybe it's an odd inspiration for a song, but I think it came out pretty okay!
I spent about 3.5 hours writing it and 30 minutes recording it.
