Day 29: Your Time Will Come

Part of my song-a-day writing project for the month of January

Lyrics:
Crawling through the desert
And your lips have gone dry
Can't open your mouth enough
Just to ask the question why
Ayo! Ayo!
Don't you know your time will come?

Swimmin' in the ocean
And you haven't found land
It's hard to keep your principles
When you have no place to stand
Ayo! Ayo!
Don't you know your time will come?

Oh oh oh, life will go on
Oh oh oh, even when you're down
It always turns around

Walking over hot coals
You can feel the heat
You can lose a thousand times
And never have to face defeat
Ayo! Ayo!
Don't you know your time will come?

Falling through the air
And you think you'll blow away
Just hang on a cloud a while
Eventually you're going to reign
Ayo! Ayo!
Don't you know your time will come

Oh oh oh, life will go on
Oh oh oh, even when you're down
It always turns around

Details: Just before I got started, I heard "A Message To You Rudy" on the radio, and so I wanted to write a reggae song. I spent time thinking about that song, "Israelites" by Desmond Dekker and several songs by The Police, and came up with a basic melody and chord progression. I never got a real subject in mind for the song, so I just started writing the first thing that came to mind. I ended up with something far less cynical than I actually am, but I'm trying to stop letting my cynicism sabotage the happy tunes I come up with. That being said, I can imagine revisiting the lyrics on this and coming up with something more sophisticated.

This took about 3 hours to write and 30 minutes to record.
