Lyrics:
I'm feeling lost, I'm feeling blue
I'm out of touch, I'm out of tune
My finger's sore, all these barre chords
Have brought me down without you
Where did you go, my purple capo?
What have I done? Now you're gone, long long gone
I'm going out to get unwound
I'm heading to the old stomping grounds
To see a band I used to know
I played with them sometime ago
Where did you go, my purple capo?
What have I done? Now you're gone, long long gone
He has my mic, he has my stand
And what's that there above his hand?
It's lavender, a bright lilac
I know it's mine, and I want it back
A sip of liquid courage gets my nerve up just enough
To rush the stage
I grab you from the singer, flip my middle finger
Then I run away
I'll take you home, my purple capo
I'll keep you safe and you'll hold my strings
There's nothing like you, my purple capo
But now I see that you're green
Details: Trish Applegate-Loetz is the Executive Director of Sound Bridge Music, and I had a chance to get to know her while I was their Featured Artist for the month of December. Trish sang harmonies for several of my songs during my Featured Artist show, and I liked her instincts there, so I thought it would be fun to co-write a song with her.
First thing she says is that she wants to write a song about a capo. As many of you know, I'm game to write about anything, so we pressed on. We had a really fun time putting this together, and I see it as sort of a love-letter to the local music scene-- it's not uncommon at all to loan out your capo, tuner, etc. and not get it returned.
This took about 3 hours to write and another hour to practice and record.
