Lyrics:
It's a beautiful day
How about me and you
Take off early
And go find something to do
We could go to the market, get a basket
And fill it with some cheese
We could get parmesan and camembert
We could get anything we please
And go on a picnic outside in the sunshine
Go on a picnic in the sunshine with you
We could get serrano, manchego
I know you like pate
Some of those little pickled onions
A bottle of rose
And go on a picnic outside in the sunshine
Go on a picnic in the sunshine with you
We have a blanket to throw on the ground
What's for dessert? It depends on if nobody else is around
And go on a picnic outside in the sunshine
Go on a picnic in the sunshine with you
We've been here for hours
The suns gonna set
As the shadows chase us home
We will never forget
Going on a picnic outside in the sunshine
Going on a picnic in the sunshine with you
Details: John and I wrote a song together for last year's Song-a-day January (Day 15, Eldorado) and we decided to give it another go. We were trying to come up with a sexy song, but some of the funkier options weren't getting the job done, so we tried a more subdued approach. The chord progression we came up with reminded me a of a picnic, and John's a big foodie, so we ran with the idea of skipping out of work to go have a romantic meal in the park.
We ended up taking about 2 hours to write the song and another hour to record it.
