Day 4: Never Reach The End

Lyrics:

Hold on down low
Winter's coming and I won't be letting go
Ensure your fate
Read the book, but you know that the words are coming late

And don't say a prayer for me
For I'll never reach the end

Fall from the tower
The raven's wings will lift you beyond the hours
Remove your mask
You have no name, no face-- will you finish up the task?

And don't say a prayer for me
For I'll never reach the end

Oh Ooooh Tell me what I've become
At least I know I'm not the only one

Sister, you're right
It's a war we can win if we only spend the night
Wildfire and dragons
You can try to fly away, but it only comes again

And don't save a chair for me
'Cause I'll never be your friend
And don't say a prayer for me
For I'll never reach

Details: Oh, dear-- this was a rough one. I had a couple meetings today, so I got a late start. I went out for a walk to find a song, and the melody came fairly easily. Unfortunately the key I chose necessitated some chords that I don't like to play much on the guitar (can't stand those barre chords). Anyway, I felt sloppy playing the guitar part all night.

It felt like a seasonal winter tune, but I was having trouble fitting interesting words into the syllabic restrictions of the melody. The only thing that stood out was "Winter's coming but I won't be letting go". After a while, it occured to me that "Winter is coming" is also a line from "Game of Thrones", so I just decided to start writing it about that series.

This took about 5 hours to write and I rushed the recording to get it recorded before midnight. I didn't get it uploaded until after midnight, but I'll forgive myself. Hopefully tomorrow's song will be more inspired.
